Glass-Replacement-150x150.jpgThe most important measurements you should take are the measurement A (also known as PZ) as well as the length of the backplate. Take these measurements to make sure that your new uPVC handle will fit.

Lever/Lever

A lever is a solid bar that pivots around a central point (known as a fulcrum). When you apply force towards the end, the fulcrum will move in the direction of the force is applied. This motion increases the force and lets you lift or move things that would otherwise require more force to lift.

The distance between the fulcrum and the point where you apply the force determines the distance the lever can move. This is referred to as the mechanical advantage. The mechanical advantage increases when the lever is extended. You can determine the mechanical advantage by dividing the distance from the fulcrum to the point where you are applying the force by the distance between the fulcrum and the end of the lever.

Levers can also have different effects based on the way in which forces are applied. For instance the class 2 lever is inclined to turn in the opposite direction when the force applied to it (like a T-totter). The forces generated when you push on the handle of a front door will create rotational effects similar to those.

However, levers don't create energy. They just multiply the force you apply by changing a small amount of effort applied over a long distance into a greater amount of force applied over a shorter distance. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and move massive amounts of cargo. The principle of the lever is also employed in everyday tools such as crowbars. Hammer claws, fishing rods and your own legs when you are standing on your car's hand brake.

Lever/Pad

Lever pad handles, also known as upvc door handles feature levers on both sides to operate the multipoint locks. They come in a variety of designs and finishes and are suitable for a variety of materials including UPVC, Aluminium & Timber doors. They are sold in pairs for the outside and the interior doors, with spindles and screws included. They are available in both unhanded and handed versions to suit different users.

They are commonly used in new constructions and are used to replace the existing upvc doors. They are usually operated by lifting the levers to throw out all of the multipoint locks before turning the key to close or unlock. They offer some extra security compared to traditional lever door handles since the locking mechanism can only be gained via the inside using an open key, unless the door is deadlocked.

They're not as secure as a cylinder lock but they're cost-effective ways to add extra security to your home. The only drawback is that they don't offer the same level of protection as a cylinder lock, and therefore don't block access to the home if the door is left open.

This type of handle is also popular for interior doors, such as bedrooms, where you might want to restrict access from outside.

Snib buttons may cause problems in some cases, especially when you have old locks and warped doors. If the snib button is accidentally pressed by someone who isn't familiar with it, the door could slam and lock you out. You can usually get in by knocking the door frame or the letterbox. This is achieved by using the 'pad-shaped' handle that locks into the gap between the handle and the lock case.
